In the following section you´ll find 10 activities we advise you to do while visiting Madrid, Spain. 1. Visit the Prado Museum. This museum, located in the Paseo del Prado, in heart of Madrid, houses works by the most important Spanish and European artists of recent centuries. Paintings by Goya, Monet, El Bosco, Picasso and many others decorate its walls.
2. Like football? The Santiago Bernabeu and the Vicente Calderón are the two stadiums which are home to Madrid´s main football clubs, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Depending on what time of the year you go to Madrid, you may catch an important European Cup or Spanish league game.
3. Visit the Puerta del Sol. An iconic place for all Spaniards, this is where each year the twelve chimes welcoming in the New Year are broadcast from. This spot also marks kilometre 0 in Madrid, the centre of Spain.
4. Stroll along the Gran Vía. An obligatory stop for visitors to Madrid, this is the heart of the Spanish capital and home to cinemas, theatres and restaurants.
5. Visit the Retiro park, a green and pleasant space in which to breathe in the city centre.
Don´t miss the Glass House and the Velázquez Palace.
6. Visit the Plaza Mayor. Another iconic spot of Madrid, with its terraces and street hawkers. Watch out for pickpockets but don´t be put off, it´s still a great place for a stroll in the sun.
7. Visit the Temple of Debohd. In the vicinity of the Palace of the East, towards the street Calle Ferraz is the Park of the West. Inside the park you will find this magnificient temple from whose walls you can enjoy a bird´s eye view of the old part of Madrid.
8. Shopping. In Calle Serrano you will find all the big names at prices to match. For something a bit more trendy, Calle Fuencarral is home to many shops offering the latest fashions at more or less affordable prices.
10. The beer and tapas route. Sunday is the perfect day in Madrid for a tapas bar crawl. Start off in Santa Ana y la Latina, on route check out Madrid´s famous fleamarket, then finish up in Tirso de Molino. |
